This handsome young gelding has about 6 months professional training with Randy Ophus and
is doing really well. I was going to show him in reining this year, but won't be able to for medical reasons.
I was also going to start him in dressage in the next few years, as he has really amazing movement. He is a breeding
stock paint.
I've team penned with him, gymkhanas, done ranch work and been to many working cow horse
/ penning clinics. He has a keen interest in cows, and watches them intently ALL the time, he just needs more confidence and
experience to do his thing better. With his size and more work, he may even work out as a roping horse. UPDATE: After
team penning for a full year, Norm and I had an incident where 2 cows collided in front of us and went under him. I
think it scared the crap out of both of us (I tore my ACL ligament in my spectacular flight off his back). SInce that
time he has not wanted to do team penning and I haven't got the confidence to do it with him. Randy works buffalo and
the mechanical cow with him and he does great! A few years ago, we were riding in the bush at Randy's and a bear popped
out beside us, followed by a crashin' thrashin' romp through the bushes. Again, Randy out-rides with him all the time
and he's fantastic. He has tried to rear on Randy a few times this past 2 months in training in January, but Randy was
able to shut him down quickly and easily. He seems to do better when he's being ridden alot, and by someone who isn't
scared. WHen I picked him up, I had my lessons on him and he did FANTASTIC. He really responds well to a light
hand. I use a billy allen on him.
He is stunning to look at and an absolute doll to handle, farrier, vet and groom (exceptional
around kids). Normie gets alot of attention for his stunning good looks and shiny coat (even in the winter) people think I
blanket him all winter (which I don't). My vet and farrier love working with this guy because he's so well behaved. He is
playful and loves to just stand near you when you're working in the field. I can lift all his feet, blanket him (over the
head), saddle him and completely groom him without even haltering him.
His bloodlines include alot of gorgeous performance horses. Excellent health with regular
farrier, vet, and chiropractor work. You can see his early training videos on Youtube if you search "glwaite". That
would be his initial 6 weeks training as a 3 year old. I have other video of him that i'm trying to get off my hard
drive that fried last month. Will post if I get them off. I have video on facebook of him with the mechanical
cow from January.
